Hello

meet
With over 30 years of experience, I’m a nationally recognized expert on Medicare.
I write about it, speak about it, and have a passion for teaching others how to navigate the system and avoid the costly mistakes I see people make every day.
My Story
For the past 30 years, I’ve dedicated my career to understanding, improving, and navigating Medicare—not just in theory, but in practice, where it truly impacts patients, providers, and the healthcare system as a whole. Today, I lead a national Beneficiary and Family Centered Care-Quality Improvement Organization (BFCC-QIO), overseeing the quality of care for millions of Medicare beneficiaries. That means I’m at the heart of the system every day—ensuring patients receive the care they deserve while helping hospitals, doctors, and healthcare organizations stay compliant with Medicare’s ever-evolving regulations. If there’s one thing I know better than most, it’s how Medicare actually works in the real world.

My path to Medicare expertise wasn’t a straight line. I started my career as a mental health therapist, working with at-risk adolescents and learning how to solve problems in unpredictable, high-stakes situations—a skill that Medicare later trained me to master on a national scale. From there, I earned a master’s in educational psychology and then a second master’s in human genetics, becoming a board-certified genetic counselor. At one of the world’s top maternal-fetal medicine centers, I worked with high-risk pregnancy patients, helping them navigate some of the most complex and emotional medical decisions of their lives. That experience gave me a front-row seat to the real-life challenges of healthcare access, insurance barriers, and the intersection of policy and patient care.

But my expertise didn’t stop at the bedside. Determined to understand the system that controlled so much of patient care, I went on to earn a doctorate in healthcare administration, focusing on leadership, quality improvement, and systemic solutions in a constantly shifting industry. With my background in both clinical practice and healthcare policy, I developed a deep understanding of how Medicare impacts hospitals, physicians, and most importantly, the patients it was designed to serve. Over the years, I’ve worked alongside federal agencies, healthcare executives, and frontline providers, advising on best practices, compliance strategies, and the realities of Medicare regulations. My contributions to the field have been recognized at the highest levels—CMS has twice honored me with national Special Achievement Service Awards for my role in improving the Medicare system.

Medicare is vast, complicated, and often misunderstood. I’ve spent my career translating its complexity into practical knowledge, ensuring that patients receive the care they need and that providers can navigate the regulations without getting lost in red tape. Whether it’s policy debates, hospital compliance, provider education, or patient advocacy, I’ve been in the room where decisions are made and on the front lines where those decisions play out. My expertise isn’t just theoretical—it’s built from decades of firsthand experience in making Medicare work for the people who rely on it most.
